Happy Mother’s Day!!! This image of my oldest helping his little brother is something so simple that happened last weekend, yet has tugged on me since. He didn’t know I saw this or that I took a picture yet did this anyway ❤. Being a mom is one of the most rewarding things I’ll ever get to have the privilege to do, yet in contrast at times it often feels exhausting, demanding & even thankless. For me I think I am often looking for a “thank you for all you do”. This week, what stuck with me is that it is NOT without thanks. Even though at times it feels that way, the thanks show up in moments. Moments like this where I feel like, “Yes! He is helping his brother because it’s the right thing to do not because I yelled at him.” Thanks show up in moments of unexpected snuggles at just the perfect, needed time.

It comes in the gesture of handpicked ‘flowers’ (weeds) on a summer evening walk. ???

Thanks come in the sweet thoughts of my 5 year old telling daddy ‘secrets’ so loud I can hear & planning for a special Mother’s Day while daddy is away. ? Thanks even show up on sick days when all they want is mommy. It shows up in all the calls for mom, looking for mom, needing mom, which often feels never-ending.

I’ve got to pay more attention to the thanks in the moments. My boys have manners & do say thank you. This isn’t about manners. It’s about meaning, and the real meaning is in the moments. Even though it can feel demanding & exhausting, it’s not without thanks. It just shows up in unexpected ways. Thank God for that! Those moments revive and remind me I am doing a good job. We are ALL doing a good job! Mommas, I hope you get many unexpected ‘thank yous’ for Mother’s Day & always! May you not have to yell, “Where are your pants?!?” today. #lifewithboys #storyofmylife
