Life has been so crazy good lately, but there has been no slowing down it feels like. It is one of those amazing times of great things happening – like launching my wellness coaching, partnering with new clients on their wellness dreams, launching as a Beautycounter educator as well as life as a full-time, working momma. Again, all such wonderful things, BUT how do you maintain health + wellness + sleep + good self-care during times like this? I thought I would share my 6 tips for self-care in times of high stress.

I love coaching and educating about safer products, so I find it hard to slow myself down. Below is my list of things that help me during high stress times of life (even good stress is a stressor on the body!):

1) Build in some time for exercise – even a short 15-20 min brisk walk, outdoors if you can, will help you slow down, reconnect and relieve stress. You can even do this short 7 minute workout to re-energize!

2) Take breathing breaks! If you are working or are at home with kiddos yet feeling overwhelm set it, try to take a breather. Tune into some calming music and do some deep breathing. This only takes a couple minutes, but it can do wonders! This link will take you to more inspiration on the blog.

3) Choose your foods and beverages wisely! Ah-hem… trust me this is so HUGE. I know because of ‘trial and correction’ (I don’t like to call it trial and error – we learn and move on). Eat the foods that support your body and avoid overdoing it with alcohol. Water, herbal teas, kombucha, bone broth + real and unprocessed foods will support your body during times of high stress.

4) Schedule sleep. What? Yes, schedule it! If you have a hard time shutting it down, turning things off – set a time on your calendar app with an alert. We need at least 8 hours of restorative sleep a night. A dark, cool room is best.

5) Collagen and Magnesium are 2 of my favorite supplements any time, but especially during times of high stress.

  • Collagen, because who doesn’t want great hair, skin and nails, right? BUT more importantly it is the building blocks of our cells and we really don’t consume this like we used many, many years ago. It helps our bodies repair damage, especially in our gut. Great Lakes Collagen is the brand I currently use and is high quality at a great price. I make a bullet proof coffee with this – my recipe vlog, coming soon!
  • Magnesium is so important to relieve stress and if taken at night can help you ease gently into sleep (pssst – you will sleep like a BABY!). You can take Natural Calm OR you can take an Epsom Salt Bath – Walmart, Target, etc would have a 5lb bag for around $5. The bath gives your muscles and body some wonderful relaxation.

6) HAVE FUN! This might be one of the most important. Don’t take things too seriously. Laugh at yourself. Schedule time with family and friends for play. Do things that make you smile.

The image above is of me and my boys this week… “Cloud watching with my boys. ⛅️⛅️ I walked outside & they were lounging in the grass looking up at the clouds – something I used to love to do when I was little. My oldest said to his brother, “look a dinosaur!” I am admittedly always on the move, hardly slowing down lately. I listened to the call today to “come join us, mama” instead of saying I had to do ____ or ____. Here’s to more clouds and daydreams & less meaningless busy-ness.

There you have it! The short list, but hopefully some of these tips are helpful for you. Tell me by hitting reply or going over the the blog HERE and commenting…. what do you do for YOU during times of high stress?
